George Jones’ legacy will live on even longer this spring when his own museum opens this April 24 in Nashville.
From the pain of a George Jones classic and the simple joys of the Judds, on up to the determination of Dierks Bentley to move ahead even as he ‘holds on,’ these ten songs show different shades of nostalgia in contemporary country music.
“This day is going to be bittersweet,” Nancy Jones said. “I know how much people loved George, and the love has continued even a year later.”
“Have you watched Justin Bieber lately?” Paisley said. “He is living a George Jones song.”
Dubbed Playin’ Possum: The Final No-Show, the Jones tribute concert lasted four hours and welcomed more than 100 artists to to perform 48 Jones hits.
“He Stopped Loving Her Today” makes the list, of course, but there are many more Jones recordings that are equally devastating. Our list also includes honky tonkers, a twisted gospel song and even a stunning love ballad.
