Keith Urban, Little Big Town and Celine Dion will all lend their voices and music to the Stand Up to Cancer benefit that airs live on over 40 stations, including CBS, on September 9th.
The one-hour event will be broadcast from Music Center’s Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and actor Bradley Cooper will direct. Cooper lost his father to cancer in 2011. “We all have a reason to stand up,” he said. “Stand Up to Cancer is a sustained movement that impacts millions of lives. We honor the personal stories that motivate individuals to fight, and that highlight the urgent need to get new methods of treatment to the patients who so desperately need them” (via Rolling Stone).
Besides the artists slated to perform, an impressive roster of actors will make appearances during the televised benefit, including Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, Emma Stone, Anna Kendrick, Josh Gad, Niecy Nash, Eric Stonestreet, Alison Sweeney, Ken Jeong, Marcia Cross and Stand Up to Cancer co-founder Katie Couric. The program will air commercial free.
Cooper has increasingly turned his attention from acting to directing of late. In addition to this personal project, he’ll be directing Lady Gaga’s film debut in the upcoming feature A Star is Born.
