Taylor Swift wasted no time in premiering a new song during her Yahoo livestream Monday night (Aug. 18).
As she danced and twirled around the studio, she mouthed along to her first new song, “Shake It Off,” off her upcoming new album 1989, due out Oct. 27.
“People can say whatever they want about us at any time and we cannot control that,” she told the audience about the lyrical content. “The only thing we can control is out reaction to it.”
“Shake It Off,” produced by Max Martin and ShellBack, continues Swift’s transformation into a pop star. The up-tempo, sunny tune recalls Pharrell’s “Happy” with its infectious claps and chorus. “I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it off, shake it off,” she sings over swelling horns.
The song marks a return to Swift’s partnership with Martin and ShellBack. The singer previously wrote “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” with the duo, among others.
