Shakira isn’t a name you normally see in the same sentence as ‘country music.’ But that’s exactly what happened last week, when she revealed “Medicine,” her new duet with her fellow Voice coach Blake Shelton.

Now the two artists are taking their collaboration a step further. The Academy of Country Music and dick clark productions have announced that Shakira and Shelton will perform “Medicine” together live during the 49th annual ACM Awards on Sunday.

“We’re excited to have Shakira come join us in Las Vegas,” said R.A. Clark, one of show’s executive producers, during a press conference today (March 31). Getting the two to perform together he said was “a fun project … we’re looking forward to it.”

The idea for the appearance, Clark continued, initially came from Shakira’s team. They “reach[ed] out to us and [said], ‘we have a new cut with Blake, would you be interested?’ As producers, we’re always looking for those moments when we can bring folks together. And we think those two together [will be] great for the show.”

“Blake Shelton is one of the best live performers out there today, and Shakira is an amazing singer and live entertainer,” echoed Jack Sussman, the executive vice president of CBS Specials & Live Programming. So that moment on stage together, he said, “will be something live you don’t get to see every day.”

The song “Medicine” appears on Shakira’s new self-titled album, which hit stores on March 21. It was written by Shakira with Mark Bright and Hillary Lindsey.
