Josh Turner fans will get to know the singer even better when his first book, Man Stuff: Thoughts on Faith, Family, and Fatherhood hits shelves on April 29.

“It’s a book full of life lessons, life stories, from my experiences, things I’ve learned throughout my life, mistakes I’ve made,” Turner told USA Today.

“I was raised in a strong Christian family in a tight-knit community in rural South Carolina,” Turner writes in the book’s introduction. “I was taught essential life lessons, like the value of a dollar, what hard work feels like, and how important an education is. I was taught why being thoughtful, respectful, and considerate of others makes life more fulfilling, and why trusting God with your life’s decisions is wise. If all that sounds a little old-fashioned, well, that’s because it is. And I’m okay with that.”

Thomas Nelson Publishers — part of HarperCollins Christian Publishing — approached Turner about writing a book after People named him the “Hottest Dad in Country Music” back in 2011.

“People talk about songwriting being therapy, but, for me, it was great to not have to be hunched over a guitar or be trying to craft a melody along with the words,” he said of the writing process. “I just let the words flow and told stories.”

Turner added how important the editing process was for him. He didn’t want to come across as “preachy, coarse or harsh.” Instead, he wrote in a way to insure the readers take away the best possible lesson from his stories.
