“Out Among the Stars,” which is also the title track off his forthcoming album of unreleased material (due March 25), is a story song that tells of a man struggling to find a job who holds up a liquor store. With Cash’s deep vocals and the slow guitar, it’s easy to visualize the story coming to life. To listen, visit Cash’s website.
Last month another track, “She Used to Love Me a Lot” was released as well. It’s more of a mid-tempo honky-tonker, and it will also appear on his forthcoming album.
Cash recorded Out Among the Stars in the early 1980s with Billy Sherrill, the ‘countrypolitan’ producer who helped shape the classic sounds of such legends as Tammy Wynette, Charlie Rich and George Jones.
