As his latest single “Whatever She’s Got” sits high on the country charts, singer David Nail looks back 13 years to where it all began.
“The first time I ever heard any of the songs on the radio, it was my first record deal,” Nail told Radio.com. “I was 21 [and] I was driving through Memphis. Ironically, it was a song called ‘Memphis.’ I had just been doing an interview with a radio station so I kind of had an idea that they possibly might play it. I’ll never forget. I was driving across the river into Arkansas to Southeast Missouri, where I grew up, and it came on.”
Alone in the car, Nail said it was one of those moments when he wished he had someone beside him so there was proof the moment actually happened. Pretty soon his phone started ringing, though, so he wasn’t completely alone during that big radio moment.
“I had three or four family members that live in the Memphis area call me immediately,” he recalled. “That would have had to be my first cell phone, so I was already breaking the law by talking on my cell phone driving. But it was an exciting moment.”
