What a great year 2013 was in country music! We had a bunch of huge hits from the established artists, like Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley and Tim McGraw. Then we had some awesome new music from some less familiar faces, like Florida Georgia Line, Dustin Lynch, Brett Eldredge and Kacey Musgraves.
When you mix all these artists and songs together you get the best music in the world, Country Music! So whether you’re young or old, male or female, city or country, my top 10 country songs list is guaranteed to have something in it for you!
10. Blake Shelton – Sure Be Cool If You Did
The concert Blake put on at the X-Cel Energy Center in September could have easily been the country concert of the year here in the Twin Cities. This song takes me back to that show and just reminds me how great of a performer Blake Shelton really is.
9. Brad Paisley – Beat This Summer
This song reminds of just how great summers are in Minnesota. Whether you’re on Lake Minnetonka, Prior Lake, or just walking around downtown, remember just how lucky we are to live in such a great state that has so much to offer, especially during the summer months. It’s hard to beat a Minnesota Summer.
8. Jake Owen – Anywhere With You
So it’s been a busy past few years for Jake Owen, he got married, had a baby girl, lost a finger in a go-cart accident, and had a string of huge hits, including this awesome song. It’s one of those songs that just makes you wanna grab your guy or girl and hold them close.
7. Randy Houser – Runnin’ Out of Moonlight
This is just one of those songs that I have to crank up really, really loud when it comes on. It’s just a feel good, happy and fun song. Let’s crank it up!
6. The Band Perry – Better Dig Two
Is this considered a love song? Absolutely! Kimberly Perry says it the ultimate love song, until the very, very end…and then some!
5. Tim McGraw – One of Those Nights
Tim is kinda like a fine wine, he just gets better with age. Vocally AND physically! Ladies I’m sure you’ve seen him without his shirt. (If not, then now you have…and you’re welcome!) It was tough to pick this song over ‘Highway Don’t Care’, but it just came down to personal preference for me. I still remember him playing the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand on Labor Day. It just truly was ‘One of those Nights’!
4. Darius Rucker – Wagon Wheel
It really didn’t matter where I went this past year, this song always seemed to be on. It’s a song that was originally written by Bob Dylan, (although never recorded) then recorded by the group, Old Crow Medicine Show in 2004. The video feature some members from the hit show ‘Duck Dynasty’, as well as Charles Kelly and Dave Heywood from Lady Antebellum.
3. Luke Bryan – Crash My Party
I don’t think there was a hotter star (pun intended) in country music this past year. I was tempted to put Luke’s other big hit ‘That’s My Kind of Night’ in my top 10, but thought this song was a little bigger. Don’t think compiling a list like this is easy!
2. Florida Georgia Line – Get Your Shine On
It is truly amazing how quickly Tyler and Brian have blown up in country music. I remember seeing them perform for the first time last year at the Best Buy in Burnsville. I was standing stage right recording them sing the song ‘Cruise’, which most people weren’t even familiar with at the time.
They’ve had 3 straight number one songs to kick off their career, which is really amazing in itself. This song could’ve easily been my number one for the year, but was edged out…barely…by Lee Brice.
1. Lee Brice – I Drive Your Truck
Both the song and video are just amazing! It especially hits home hard if you’ve ever lost someone you’ve loved. Lee Brice sings this song with such emotion, which makes it just that much better. This song is my #1 for the year!
Florida Georgia Line – ‘Round Here
I love this song just as much as ‘Get Your Shine On’, so I had to put it under my honorable mentions. I love these guys!
Brett Eldredge – Don’t Ya
He’s not only a talented, but he’s also very, very funny! I had to include this song on this list since he’s one of the bright young stars in the format.
Miranda Lambert – Mama’s Broken Heart
She plays “crazy” so well in this video, I think she should have won an Oscar for the performance.
Blake Shelton – Boys ‘Round Here
This is another song that just reminds me of summer and makes me wanna sing along. It could also be listed as one of the top country drinking songs of 2013.
Kip Moore – Hey Pretty Girl
Ladies, you realize he’s singing this song to you, right? When you listen, just close your eyes and picture him sitting directly across from you, serenading you with his guitar and signature backwards red ball cap.
