After nearly a decade away from the stage, Garth Brooks is gearing up for a massive three-year long world tour (and just scored the No. 1 spot on the album chart). Wednesday (December 11) he called into Minneapolis’ BUZ’N 102.9‘s Koffy In The Morning and shared what to expect from his new music and how, if at all, he has changed since his retirement.
For his new tour, Brooks said to expect new music.
“As excited as you are, I’m a thousand times more excited. It was like a 4,000-pound weight that came off my chest when I just said, ‘Yes I’m coming out [on tour],'” he said. “The world tour is all going to be the stuff you know Garth from and all the new stuff that’s coming. I can’t tell you how excited I am about that. It’s a new tour. New Garth music that I hope gets treated like the old stuff.”
While he didn’t reveal any details on when a new album will drop, he said he’s still the same Garth Brooks fans know and love.
“I think I’m still the same guy, just now with three daughters in my rear-view mirror as children, what I’ve learned from that,” he said. “The great thing is, as you go there are great people to look toward just like you did then. I used to have my mom and dad; I don’t have them any more but their influences live on.”
Brooks explained that his life is always reflected in his music and as he gears up to release new music, this won’t change.
“All you can do is be yourself,” he said. “If you try to chase what’s new and happening you’re going to fall flat on your face. All I can do is be myself and if you guys accept that and everything’s great and we get to sell records and continue, great. If they say, ‘Hey, Garth you had a good run and it’s over,’ I thank God every night for my children and my wife, and let the chips fall where they may.”
Yesterday on The Talk, Brooks spoke in more detail about his upcoming tour.
“The whole goal in life is to make whatever you’ve done before look small,” he said. “The 2014 World Tour will be the first of a three year world tour. I’m very excited.” Watch the complete interview below.
