TYLER FARR has a two-pronged strategy for making sure he has a long career in country music. The first one is to write great songs, and the second is to FIND great songs written by others.

He says, “I try my best to follow in the footsteps of guys like KENNY CHESNEY, TIM MCGRAW or ALAN JACKSON . . . all these artists who have had long careers.

“They were songwriters, but not only did they write songs, they knew what kind of songs to pick as well.”

He put that plan into play for his album “Redneck Crazy”. He says, “I listened to songs that my buddies wrote and I got sent. I went through and became a fan of certain songs. I’m going to continue doing that and hope it works.”

It’s a smart move. GEORGE STRAIT and TIM MCGRAW built solid careers by choosing great songs written by OTHER people. The tricky part has to be sorting through the crap to find the hidden gems.
