North Carolina country-rock quartet Parmalee today announced the release date for their upcoming debut country album. Titled Feels Like Carolina, the album will hit stores Dec. 10.
“After everything we’ve been through – not only as a band – but as a family, we can’t put into words how thrilled we are to finally release this project for the world to hear,” lead singer Matt Thomas said in a press statement about the record.
The album includes the band’s current hit “Carolina,” which entered the Top 10 this week. All four bandmates (brothers Matt and Scott Thomas, their cousin Barry Knox, and their childhood friend Josh McSwain) wrote “Carolina” along with songwriter Rick Beato.
“The song is about home, and how the people you love can make you feel at home,” Matt Thomas told Radio.com. The four bandmates have been playing together for more than a decade, and through those years they’ve spent a lot of time out on the road. “We’re always gone, away from our families, and coming home was always a big deal. And that’s how that song came about. We were out in California for a while, and we came back to North Carolina, and I just had this thought, and we parlayed that into a relationship song.”
The album also includes their previous single “Musta Had a Good Time,” a party song they wrote, not after a wild and lavish house party, but while they were living in an R.V. parked outside a motel in downtown Nashville–and while much of Nashville was being overtaken by the flood of 2010.
Additional songs include the laid-back “Day Drinkin’,” the upbeat “Dance” and the catchy “Back in the Day,” all of which they’ve been performing in their live shows recently. When Radio.com caught up with Parmalee for a show last week in Asheville, North Carolina (see photos from the show), the crowd responded enthusiastically to each of these songs, even though they were likely hearing them for the first time.
“Every experience over the last few years – both positive and negative – has helped to mold the songs on Feels Like Carolina,” Matt Thomas said.
