Radio Feedback: Thompson Square Shares Radio First with Woman in Parked Car
It’s hard to imagine a time when Thompson Square‘s songs weren’t on the radio. As their current single “Everything I Shouldn’t Be Thinking About” steadily climbs the charts, Radio.com sat down with married duo Keifer and Shawna Thompson to learn all about the very first time they heard one of their songs on the radio.
“It was actually a song called ‘Let’s Fight’ that we started out with,” Keifer explained. “As the story goes, we were in Spokane [Washington] in the parking lot of the Guitar Center and it came on the radio and we freaked out.”
They were both in the car “rocking out” when Keifer looked over in the parking lot to see a woman in a minivan. “I said, ‘I’m going to go over there and tell her we’re on the radio.’”
As Shawna explained, “He felt that he had to go over and tell somebody that we were on the radio.”
And so he did.
“I hopped out of the car and went over there and knocked on her windshield and she freaked out,” he recalled. “I said, ‘Hey, my song’s on the radio right now. Turn it on!’ She got excited and she turned it on.”
It just so happened that the woman in the van was a musician herself and her last name was also Thompson.
“It was kind of weird how it worked out,” Keifer said.
Thompson Square’s most recent album, Just Feels Good, is out now.
