Kelly Clarkson Talks Stalking Reba & Her TV Future
Kelly Clarkson has become quite the household name in the music industry, after her successful pop music career and her recent crossover into country, her career has only skyrocketed since her American Idol win. Now with a marriage on the horizon, a quick jaunt on TV and a new album under her belt, Clarkson is well on her way to the perfect musician’s life.
If fans were expecting a largely, overdone wedding, unfortunately those dreams aren’t coming true. Just after Clarkson sent her save-the-dates for her nuptials with fiancé Brandon Blackstock, son of her manager Navel Blackstock who is also married to Reba McEntire, they rescinded the invites due to details leaking. ”We sent out our invitations and everything leaked. Since we were planning on having it at my house, we didn’t want that to leak,” Clarkson explains to The New 103.7 in Charlotte. Her Jane Austen inspired engagement photoshoot was actually the deciding factor on their decision to elope. Things had began to get so overwhelming for the “Tie It Up” singer, they both decided to make it an intimate experience with just his kids and the minister.
Unfortunately, this meant the big wedding reception they had planned wouldn’t come to fruition, which bummed out fellow country star andThe Voice coach Blake Shelton, who had planned to perform for the guests. ”Blake’s one of those guys that will walk into a bar and get onstage for three hours and it wasn’t planned… he was probably a little bummed when we canceled,” she admits. But the lack of Shelton won’t hold a candle to the bigger reality check of her married life: marrying into the life of her biggest role model Reba McEntire.
“I don’t think she knows how powerful of an influence she is on generations,” Clarkson says of her future mother-in-law before continuing, ”[McEntire and Trisha Yearwood] are totally convinced I would stalk them if I wasn’t friends with them.” But if people were expecting both megastars to be horrible to deal with in person, thankfully you’re mistaken. ”We all meet those people in the business and [get] super let down, but it’s always awesome to meet people you really love and they’re cool.” Both McEntire and Yearwood have already teamed up with Clarkson on different opportunities: a duet with Reba and a cooking show with Trisha.
But music isn’t Clarkson’s only venture this year. She admits that fans can see her guest star on a brand new TV show with Robin Williams, but not to get used to seeing her bubbly personality on the small screen too much. “I’m on this show with Robin Williams called ‘The Crazy Ones’ and I wanted to vomit the whole day, I had little rashes all over.”
So maybe acting isn’t in her future but you can get a good chuckle out of her guest appearance on the show. ”I’m grinding some guy who’s singing about sex and meat,” she laughs. ”I literally looked at the writer and was like ‘I have a four letter word for you and it’s not for family’.”
Clarkson is currently supporting her Christmas release Wrapped In Red that will hit shelves on October 29, 2013.
