Florida Georgia Line Make History with ‘Round Here’
Florida Georgia Line have accomplished what not many country acts have done before. The country duo join Brooks & Dunn as the only two groups in Billboard’s Country Airplay chart history, solo, duo or group, to have their first three singles hit No. 1 for multiple weeks.
No small feat, Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley took to Twitter yesterday (Sept. 17) to share their appreciation with country radio.
The duo stormed country airwaves last year with their debut single “Cruise.” The track went to No. 1 on the country airplay charts back in December and soon saw heavy rotation on Top 40 radio for their remix with Nelly. Radio.com sat down with Kelley and Hubbard earlier this year and learned how the collaboration came together.
“We had some pop stations that were wanting a different version of ‘Cruise’ that we could send out, and he [Nelly] is a labelmate,” Kelley explained. “We heard he was a fan of what we were doing and the song. We knew he wanted to do it, and literally a day or two later we had the track and we cranked it up on the bus.”
“We’re huge fans of him. I don’t think we could have picked anybody better. It fits what we’re doing, it fits what he’s doing,” he added. “He’s a country boy at heart. We’re thankful that he put his amazing talent on our song.”
Their second No. 1 hit, “Get Your Shine On,” also embodies a feel good vibe Florida Georgia Line are known for.
“It’s just another one of those special days when you leave the songwriting room and we’re all jacked up, playing it in our truck 25 times before we get home,” Hubbard said of writing the song. “Another one of those feel good songs. We came in with the idea of, ‘Get Your Shine On.’ It fell out of the sky real quick, we wrote it real fast and it’s another one of those songs that we’re happy to be a part of.”
Their most recent No. 1, “Round Here” continues the fun and next single “Stay,” due to hit airwaves Sept. 30, is sure to do the same.
