It’s a tradition as old as the Johnny Carson show: Most nights, since 1966, bands big and small play on the national stage of late night television. Sometimes good things happen, sometimes bad things happen, but the performances are always worth watching. They’re captivating mostly because they offer the raw sound of a live band and the professional video and audio recording of a late night television show.
This week, August 12-16, sees Kacey Musgraves on Leno and Luke Bryan performing on Jimmy Kimmel, both on Tuesday night. See below for the full lineup!
Khatib hits the stage to perform a song off his recent Dan Auerbach-produced album, Head In The Dirt.
The Tonight Show With Jay Leno
Monday, August 12 – Hiatus Kaiyote
Hiatus Kaiyote is Australia’s band-sized answer to the jazzy R&Bof British songstresses like Joss Stone and Amy Winehouse. With light, new-wavey keys more suited to a lounge than the club, Hiatus Kaiyote bring something new to American airwaves, and it’s beautifully appropriate for the late night time slot.
Late Night With Jimmy Fallon
Monday, August 12 – August 15 – Justin Timberlake (repeats)
Mostly known for her record-making turn on Gotye’s “Somebody (That I Used to Know)”—you know, that Sting-esque song with the painted people in the video, which you only recently stopped hearing every five minutes?—New Zealand’s singer-songwriter Kimbra has written some great tunes herself, and is also quite the performer. (She also already has a GRAMMY at the age of 23.) No new music as of yet, but listen to 2012’s great Vows.
