The biggest surprise about Love Will… is that it’s an entire album full of love songs — a far cry from previous Adkins hits such as “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” and “Hot Mama.”
And for that, you can thank Donald Trump.
Trump is, of course, the host of Celebrity Apprentice. As Trace explained during an interview with Charlotte station The New 103.7, he thought he had finished the album last fall but had to delay release due to his requirements for filming Celebrity Apprentice. So he and his label they decided to wait until the show concluded (the finale airs live Sunday night).
“In the meantime, I came up with three more love songs,” Trace explained. “And when I recorded them after The Apprentice, I looked at everything I had, and I said, ‘Wow I have 11 love songs here…let’s just take the 11 love songs and make an album of love songs.’”
And so his new album took a “love song” focus, thanks to Trump andCelebrity Apprentice.
One of the songs on Live Will… is “Watch The World End,” a duet with pop artist Colbie Caillat. Trace says that, while his voice isn’t a good match with just anyone, “Colbie has that sultry, sexy thickness to her voice,” and so in the context of a duet “it works.” Getting her to agree to record with him worked out, too, because as Trace says, “Brett Eldredge, who wrote the song, is friends with Colbie.”
