Country star Billy Currington has been indicted. News broke Wednesday (April 24) that the country singer is wanted by a Savannah, Georgia, grand jury after “making terroristic threats and abuse of an elder person,” an official press release from the District Attorney’s office states.

The indictment was filed in the Superior Court of Chatham County Wednesday for two separate counts. The court papers report that the incident took place on April 15th, when Currington “did threaten to cause unlawful bodily harm to Charles Harvey Ferrelle, a crime of violence, with the purpose of terrorizing.”

The second count says Currington “did willfully inflict mental anguish upon Charles Harvey Ferrelle, an elder person who is more than 65 years of age who is not a resident of a long-term care facility.” It continues to claim Currington threatened “to cause unlawful bodily harm.”

An official press release from the District Attorney’s Office further explained the indictment.

“The case was presented to Grand Jury by Chief Assistant District Attorney Greg McConnell,” the release states. “The Honorable Chatham County Superior Court Judge Penny Haas Freesemann has signed a bench warrant for Currington’s arrest.”

Radio.com spoke with Daniel Baxter, Public Information Officer at the Office of the District Attorney, about the incidents, which are currently under investigation.

“The DA hasn’t released a lot of information other than to say that the case will be handled like any other case that comes into the District Attorney’s office,” he said. “There’s nothing special about it or any favoritism or anything like that. It will be handled like any other case.”

Currington took to Twitter to explain the allegations.
