A grand jury in Savannah, Georgia has indicted Billy Currington on charges of making terroristic threats and abuse of an elder person. The documents were filed in court on Wednesday (April 24th) after Currington allegedly chased down an elderly boat captain and threatened to “f*** (mess) him up” and kill him.
On April 15th, 70-year-old Charles Ferrelle was carrying two paying customers down the Back River, taking them past Currington’s waterfront home when the singer began yelling at him. The driver could not hear what he was saying, and continued on. According to police reports, on the return trip, Currington jumped in his own boat with a camera and began chasing him. Once Ferrelle docked, Currington allegedly began verbally abusing the Captain, including threatening his life.
In his haste to catch up with the Captain, the wake from Currington’s boat almost knocked the singer’s elderly neighbor, who was standing on his own dock, into the water.
On April 17th, Currington tweeted, “harrassing artists often at their home by boat should be illegal. thas all i know.”
According to the District Attorney’s office, a warrant was being issued for Currington’s arrest.
Yesterday, the singer tweeted, “hey guys, I wanted to thank everyone for the huge amount of support that I have received already. Unfortunately, I can’t comment on this situation as this is an ongoing legal matter. It means a lot to me to have your support during this time”
Currington has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
