It’s been a great few years for Eric Church. With the release of his album Chief, the birth of his baby boy, his numerous award wins and now a live album hitting shelves, country fans can’t get enough of the Carolina cowboy. Fresh off a win from the ACM Awards, Eric is now excited to release his brand new live album, Caught In The Act.
Just a week ago, Eric was sitting among hundreds of country music’s biggest stars at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas as the Academy of Country Music presented awards to the most deserving artists in the industry. This year, Eric was shocked when they called his name for ACM Album of the Year. ”I try to go in with no expectations but looking back on it, it’s cool to win ACM ‘Album of the Year’. It’s cool historically and cool for us, from where we came from in our career,” he reminisces on the Vegas night. Now, he can place that ACM award on the mantle next to his 2011 ACM for Top New Solo Vocalist, his 2012 win for Song of the Year for “Springsteen” and his other 2013 win for Vocal Event of the Year.
No doubt, next year’s ACMs will feature his brand new live album Caught In The Act, an album Eric is proud of because he was able to get back to the roots of where his career came from. ”We graduated to some of these bigger rooms… and I didn’t want to lose touch with where we came from which is bars, clubs, small theaters,” he admits. ”I wanted to make sure we captured what that was because that’s really the birth of where all this came from.”
Fans can pick up Eric’s brand new live album right now but Eric also teased a new 7″ vinyl that’ll make its way to shelves with a very special addition. ”We have a brand of whiskey called Chief Whiskey… and we poured it in the vat as they were making [the vinyl],” he recalls, adding the most important element. ”The 7-inch actually comes out looking and smelling like whiskey. Depending on how tight times get, you can melt that thing down and have a beverage.”
As if a new live album isn’t enough for Eric Church fans around the world, he teased the prospect of some new music on the horizon. ”I just spent a month in the mountains of North Carolina doing some songwriting about two days before the ACMs.” But before fans get too excited for a possible new album this year, he was quick to explain further. ”I was just trying to see where the process goes from here and to just start the songwriting process.”
