Eric Church, the guy who had the most nominations (seven) at this year’s ACM Awards, walked away with two. One was for his vocal work on Jason Aldean’s hit “The Only Way I Know,” which won Vocal Event of the Year (Luke Bryan also shared in that award). And Eric also won ACM Album of the Year for his platinum-selling Chief.
“I can’t believe I just met John Fogerty,” Eric said smiling, still maintaining his cool but obviously in awe. “We should hang out later.” Fogerty could be seen on the sidelines giving the thumbs up.
Eric went on to thank his producer, Jay Joyce, and of course his wife.
Later, in the ACM Awards press room, Church said this award is the one he wanted most.
“My career, so many times I think my career is going to be pre-Chiefand post Chief. That record changed everything for us,” he confessed. “I would still say we went on making records the same way for Sinners Like Me and Carolina, it was just Chief that things changed as a fan base standpoint, from playing enough shows from having people out there who knew who they were, that paid attention to what that record was. I couldn’t be prouder. It’s the one award I want the most. Album of the Year is the one that is most special to me.”
