While walking the ACM Awards red carpet outside the MGM Grand tonight, Jason Aldean and his Night Train producer Michael Knox got a nice surprise. Academy of Country Music CEO Bob Romeo handed them the trophy for Vocal Event of the Year for the song “The Only Way I Know,” which also features Eric Church and Luke Bryan.

Aldean won the same award last year with Kelly Clarkson for “Don’t You Wanna Stay.” Jason cracked that maybe “they should rename it the Aldean award.”

Jokes aside, Jason was quick to thank Luke and Eric for participating on the song, which appears on Night Train and hit Number One earlier this year. He also thanked Knox, whom he called his “longtime producer” and the guy “who brought me to Nashville back in 1998.”

As for Knox, he said that “recording with Jason is rock star enough,” but the chance to record with Eric and Luke “takes it over the top.”

Jason is one of five nominees for ACM Entertainer of the Year this year.

The 48th ACM Awards air live tonight (April 7) on CBS.
