Brantley Gilbert has come a long way since his 2010 debut “Kick It In The Sticks,” acquiring two #1 singles, a gold certified album and a few ACM nominations under his belt, but 2013 is definitely the year of Gilbert. His new single “More Than Miles” is about to bust into the top 20 on the country charts and he’ll be heading on the road with country powerhouse Tim McGraw this summer.
But before he takes the stage again for thousands of country fans across the country, he has one more important thing to do: take home some ACM Awards! This weekend’s award show has alreadycrowned three winners: Brantley Gilbert for Top New Male Vocalist, his fiancee Jana Kramer for Top New Female Vocalist and Florida Georgia Line for Top New Vocal Duo/Group! Now the real competition heats up.
Each winner of the three aforementioned categories will go head-to-head for Top New Artist during the broadcast this Sunday at 8pm ET on CBS. While the newly engaged couple have two new shiny trophies for their mantle, it also means one more thing for the couple: ”We all have to compete for one award which puts me in direct competition with my fiancee,” Brantley explains. ”Which means I’ve been sleeping on the couch.”
Though a little friendly competition never hurt! In the end, Brantley is the ultimate winner for having snatched up Jana Kramer as his future wife. In fact, it’s still a dream that the “Why Ya Wanna” singer agreed to his proposal. ”I ask myself that everyday, ‘Baby, you sure you’ve said yes’,” Brantley laughs before recounting how he popped the question back on January 20 (which is also Brantley’s birthday!)
“We rented [The Ryman Auditorium] out for the day, we always said without country music we never would have met. And if you think country music and a building that represents country music it would have to be the original site for the Opry.” Not only did he orchestrate one of the most romantic proposals, he took it one step further: “I even took my hat off!”
Brantley will be hitting the road on Tim McGraw’s 2 Lanes of Freedomtour starting May 2 in Birmingham, AL. More importantly, people are wondering if Brantley will be able to keep up with Tim McGraw’s grueling on-the-road workout routine. ”I told him I’m good with lifting weights and flipping that stupid tire,” he admits before adding a little addendum to his agreement. ”But I’m not doing all that running and all that cardio, I smoke all day!”
