Last year, Lionel Richie was given the grand treatment during an all-star concert special honoring his legacy, which was taped the day after the ACM Awards and broadcast later on CBS. This year, the honored guest for a similar TV special will be Tim McGraw.
ACM Presents: Tim McGraw’s Superstar Summer Night will be taped on Monday, April 8 in Las Vegas, the night after the Academy of Country Music Awards. The show will be produced by Dick Clark Productions and will be broadcast at a later date (still to be announced) on CBS.
As was the case with the Lionel Richie special, Tim’s two-hour show will include all sorts of special guests from the world of country as well as other genres. And all proceeds will benefit ACM Lifting Lives, the charitable arm of the Academy.
“I feel a responsibility to help raise some money and awareness for ACM Lifting Lives and all the good work they do,” Tim said in a statement on his website. “They supported me last summer with our HomeFront program and helped me give away a house to a Veteran in need in every market we played in, so I’m excited to get some of my friends together and repay the favor.”
Tickets for the Superstar Summer Night taping go on sale for the general public beginning Jan. 25.
The 48th ACM Awards, cohosted by Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan, take place Sunday, April 7 in Las Vegas. The ceremony will be broadcast live beginning at 8pm ET (delayed PT) on CBS.
