‘The Voice’ Winner Cassadee Pope Reveals Crossover Aspirations
“I feel awesome. I feel exhausted. It’s just been a whirlwind since it’s happened,” Pope told 97.1 AMP Radio Thursday.
It was only a few weeks ago when Cassadee visited AMP Radio along with the rest of the top 8. Looking back, Cassadee revealed what she thought was the turning point in the singing competition.
“I think I started to really feel like I had a chance when ‘Over You’ charted. That was something that I never thought I would accomplish on my own,” she said. “So when that happened, I thought to myself not only could I do that with my own music, but I could actually maybe take this thing.
“That’s when I started to continue doing country songs because I thought maybe there was something there that I was missing and it turns out that I actually love incorporating a little country in the pop/rock genre.”

Some critics thought Pope may have peaked too early, but week after week, she found a way to dominate the iTunes charts. The 23-year-old revealed the secret to her staying power was not getting too intimidated by her breakout moment.
“I was sitting there afterwards thinking, ‘How the hell am I going to outdo this?’ I wanted to stop thinking like that because the reason that moment was so special is because it stands alone and I never want to step on it. I want to have different kinds of moments, but I knew that was never going to be beat or that nothing was ever going to be like that and that’s okay because that’s why it was so special.”
Holy moly cannoli!!!! I won!!!!!!!! Thank you all SO much. I’m absolutely in awe and so thankful for this incredible experience.

After she finishes her media blitz, the West Palm Beach native will spend the holidays with her family at her new home in Los Angeles, but she won’t have too much time to sit back and relax. Pope plans on treating us with new music as soon as possible.
“I know it’s all about the song and I really want to get something out there by January, but I still don’t want to lose touch with the whole body of work thing. I love albums that tell a story and I know it’s all about singles, which I can respect, but I also want my album to be cohesive and I don’t want every song to sound completely different from the other because as an artist, that’s not what I want to do.”
When Pope first took to The Voice stage, she positioned herself as a pop/rock singer, but after the surprise success of “Over You,” she hopes to get to work in the recording studio with her mentor, Blake Shelton, and his wife, Miranda Lambert.
“I would love to do a crossover thing where it’s pop/rock and could crossover to country, because I love country music as well. I never thought they would accept me, but they sort of have.”
