Thomas Rhett, singer of hits “Something to do with my hands” and “Beer with Jesus,” is officially off the market.
He married Lauren Gregory this past Friday (Oct. 12); the two have known each other since the first grade.
Thomas popped the question last December inside a private room at Lauren’s favorite Nashville restaurant, Giovanni’s, where he’d enlisted her mom to help stash flowers, candles and one very important prop.
“There was a (wine) bottle and with a silver Sharpie I wrote ‘marry me?’ on the bottle, and she wrote ‘Well, duh, yes’ on the bottle,” the singer recalls. “Somebody cued ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ by Frank Sinatra, and we danced in this little cigar room. It was pretty awesome.”
It was Luke Bryan, though, who had his back when others were skeptical of the 22-year-old’s impending nuptials.
Thomas Rhett’s dad, country star Rhett Akins, tells Country Weekly, “Everybody told him no, this is not what he should do, except Luke. He called Luke three or four times and Luke was like, ‘Buddy, if you’re in love and you want to get married, then do it.’ I think Luke was a huge part of Thomas Rhett going, ‘Hey, I can do this.’”
