Little Big Town Tops Charts With ‘Tornado’

September is a month that the members of Little Big Town are almost certain to remember for a long, long time. That’s because, not only did the four-piece group just finish a two-week streak at Number One with their summertime single “Pontoon,” now the album that the song resides on, Tornado, has also hit the top of the Billboard charts.

Released last week on Sept. 11, Tornado sold upwards of 113,000 copies in its first week, according to a Billboard report, which put it in the Number One spot on the Billboard Country Albums chart.

LBT’s album bumps Carrie Underwood’s Blown Away down to Number Two. The country Top Five is rounded out by Luke Bryan, Zac Brown Band, and Eric Church, who have all been regulars on this chart for quite a while (the albums by Luke and Eric have been on the chart for more than a year).

In additional, Tornado earned the Number Two spot on this week’s Billboard 200, which charts album sales across all genres. The Number One spot went to the Dave Matthews Band and their new album, Away from the World. That chart’s Top Five also included Bob Dylan’s new album Tempest; The Carpenter by alt-country group the Avett Brothers; and Coexist by The xx.

So not only has Little Big Town earned their first-ever Number One single, Tornado is also the group’s highest-charting album ever.

Little Big Town continues its tour across the country as part of the Rascal Flatts Changed Tour.
