No, I didn’t get a backstage pass. But one of the cool perks of having a concert at Target Field was that you could easily watch the comings and goings of the backstage crowd by simply walking to that side of the stadium and peering over the railing. I spent more time doing this than I should, but it was honestly really fun watching what was happening.
It all started when I wandered off to find a shady spot to eat food and heard someone talking about Christian Ponder. Sure enough there he was backstage rocking a Twins hat and taking pictures with people and hanging with his friends. From here on out I couldn’t stop watching the action. Yes I was gawking, but not only did I get to see Ponder in action, I got a look at the newest Viking, first-round draft pick, Matt Kalil.
Eventually Jake Owen joined them. A quick Google search keyed me in to the fact that Ponder and Owen are both Florida State alums. I also had the opportunity to meet Jake. He was very likeable and seemed easy going. Although I didn’t see her, I was told his new wife, who’s expecting a baby girl, was traveling with him. And earlier in the day he hit the links at Hazeltine National Golf Course in Chaska.
Also spotted; a svelte-smiley Faith Hill. She came out from backstage as soon as Tim finished his act. She was with a young girl who I’ll assume is one of their three daughters. She had her hair tucked up in a hat, and was wearing a flowy shirt, short-shorts and hot pink wedges.
