Kenny Chesney Interview: New Songs Are ‘Emotionally Relatable’

Aside from the Forrest Gump experience, Kenny also talked about the moods and feelings on his new album, Welcome to the Fishbowl, which hits stores Tuesday (June 19).

“I think the songs on this record are very, very emotionally relatable for a lot of people,” he says.

So would he say, then, that Fishbowl is his most emotional record to date?

“You listen to the songs on it,” says Kenny, “and there’s a lot of fun on this record, a lot of songs that people are going to expect to hear this summer.” But at the same time, he goes on, “there are some songs on there that are very authentic to me, emotionally, and maybe in ways that I haven’t been comfortable enough to let people hear before.”

“I think I started that process with Hemingway’s Whiskey,” he continues, referring to his last studio album from 2010. “And it felt good. I feel like the better I try to get as a human being and person, the more I grow up, and the more I feel comfortable in my skin.” And that, he says, “allows you to be more honest with your audience, and allows you to maybe sing some songs you wouldn’t [have seen] yourself singing” in years past.
