Things are looking very good for Minnesota Tourism.  The summer travel forecast shows continued moderate growth.  Most lodging and camping businesses will be expecting this season to be good as or better than last summer.  Travel spending is also expected to increase this year.  This would be the third year of gradual recovery since the recession lows in 2009.

The state tourism office, Explore Minnesota Tourism, conducted a pre-season survey and it showed 39% of lodging and camping business expect higher occupancy this summer, 46% expect occupancy similar to last year, 44% expect an increase in revenue for the summer.

John Edman, Director of Explore Minnesota Tourism, said “there’s a sense of renewed optimism in the travel industry.  As consumers gain more confidence in the economy, they are more likely to take leisure trips.  And the continuing trend of vacationing close to home really benefits Minnesota.”

The U.S. Travel Association is expecting a 1.5% increase nationally in domestic travel in 2012 which means a 3.2% increased in travel spending.
