In an exclusive interview from the ACM Awards in Las Vegas, host Steve Grunwald introduces a blushing Hunter Hayes as the “hottest country star right now.” To which the humbled young star replies, “No pressure with that intro.”
At 20 years old, too young to enjoy gambling at the casinos, Hayes tells us that “I’m 20, not too far away, but the only places I would go anyway are music venues.”
The talented singer/songwriter reveals that “I was obviously bored as a child, my parents are not musical at all so it is peculiar that I found music and am obsessed with it.”
It sounds like the 2012 ACM New Artist of the Year nominee also embraces and appreciates his fans, and responds to Grunwald when he’s told ‘everybody wants to meet you!’
“I love when it happens. I went to the Apple store the other day and someone said, ‘Yes, it’s you, I just bought your record!’ That makes my day, I love when that happens, that’s why I love what I do!”
“It’s not work when you enjoy it.”
Hayes just wrapped up on the road with Rascal Flatts and wishes they were “still on the road. Had a blast with them, really cool to have a song cut by them [a couple years ago, "Play"] and to get to tour with them is even better!”
As far as the tour pranking goes, he recalls a Barbie doll incident where “there were Barbies everywhere, so in every photo there are Barbies.”
Watch the exclusive interview to get more details on that! So far a little green, Hunter states that he had “such a great idea to prank, but has too much respect….”
