Released on October 11th, A Farmhouse Christmas contains twelve holiday tracks; but what makes [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Joey+Rory[/lastfm]‘s version of Christmas so special is the ten tracks on the record that are either new or not traditionally associated with Christmas. Rory recently spoke about why the duo chose to go with that approach:

“Some people might wonder why we haven’t filled this record with more of the Christmas standards,” Rory continues. “Well, the truth is, we feel like that’s what everyone seems to do, and we’d rather try to add a new song or two to the list of holiday classics that people listen to every Christmas, rather than just give them another take on the songs we all know and love.”

Some standouts on the album are definitely the classic Christmas standard Away in a Manger, the fun number What the Hell (It’s the Holidays)I Know What Santa’s Getting for Christmas, written by [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Garth Brooks[/lastfm] & [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Kent Blazy[/lastfm], and a memorable bluegrass rendition of Blue Christmas. The duo also recorded a cover of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Merle Haggard[/lastfm]‘s If We Make It Through December for the album, which is particularly special because of the inclusion of background vocals from Haggard.
