Grammy Nominee Jewel announced yesterday that she and husband Ty Murray are expecting their first child. Congratulations have poured in from all quarters and the couple are reportedly delighted, although no due date has yet been announced.
Last.fm Trends celebrates the news by looking back at the career that put Jewel on top.
Jewel’s had a huge impact on country music, but it’s no surprise that her earliest work has been better received than her more recent cuts.
Her top five albums to date have pulled a total of 4,543,973 scrobbles – that’s individual track plays by Last.fm listeners. Below you can see which ones make it and how big a cut they get.
Pieces of You isn’t only Jewel’s most popular album, but it also claims the track that’s attracted the largest number of plays so far; “You Were Meant For Me” has pulled in 546,803 scrobbles so far, a number that rose in the summer when latest record, Sweet And Wild, dropped.
In fact, many country singers have struggled to get numbers this high on Last.fm. It’s the enduring impact of Jewel’s hits that’s so surprising, with thousands of listeners returning to her early work week after week. If only crossover sensations, like Taylor Swift, hadn’t raised the bar so high.
It’ll be interesting to see if the needle moves upwards for Jewel as the good news spreads.
